Located off of Interstate I-40 and State Highways 59 and 64, Sallisaw was originally Indian Territory established on March 17, 1886.
Historic Downtown Sallisaw is where famous bank robber, Pretty Boy Floyd robbed a bank in broad daylight.
Sallisaw is the home of the only inventor of an alphabet, Sequoyah, the Cherokee Indian responsible for creating the Cherokee alphabet.
Home to the fictional Judd family, in the 1939 classic, The Grapes of Wrath, penned by John Steinbeck. Sallisaw is truly a city of relentless community spirit and a Black Diamond in the rough!
